The Central Archive of the Ministry of the Treasury has occupied the first and second basements of the buildings at Calle Alcalá, numbers 5, 7 and 9 since 1850.

At present, it has around 20 km of documents on its shelves, in 90,000 boxes and files, 15,000 books and archive records, 100 plans and a small historical collection that includes a modest number of mediaeval scrolls.

The present Archive goes back to 1850. Its collection of documents was lost between 1936 and 1939. From 1944, it has made huge achievements.

Via the Internet, users can access:

• Part of its collections, which can be consulted in the Virtual Room of the Historical Collection, together with the Library collections.
• The history of the basements of the Treasury, which house the Archive (under construction).
• Procedure for requesting certificates and authenticated copies of documents and dossiers in the custody of the General Archive.
